Product Description
Future by Design is a documentary film by Academy Award nominated filmmaker William Gazecki, sharing the life and far-reaching vision of Jacque Fresco, a modern day Da Vinci. Peer to Einstein and Buckminster Fuller, Jacque is a self-taught futurist who describes himself most often as a generalist or multi-disciplinarian — a student of many inter-related fields. He is a prolific inventor, having spent his entire life (he is now 90 years old) conceiving of and devisi… More >>

Concerning socio-cyberneering, I can’t help draw parallels to a book I’m reading called “Psycho-Cybernetics”. This book deals with how one can dramatically change one’s life by using one’s consciousness to re-program one’s sub-conscious. The new program is your new self-image. The re-programmed sub-conscious (being a mere computer) executes the new program and finds ways to make this new self-image become reality. Obviously, re-programming one’s sub-concious requires work, but, in my case, this really works.
Obviously, there is a lot more to socio-cybernetics and pyscho-cybernetics than the above. But society’s collective consciousness can choose to really change its societal image. Then our collective sub-consciousness would make that new societal image become reality.
And if changing one person’s self-image is challenging, changing society’s self-image is a monstrous task.
So, for those of us who want to actually create this vision:
(1) Read and execute the techniques in Psycho-Cybernetics. Once you see how people’s brain works by actually changing yours, you will more deeply understand how to change society’s collective consciousness, sub-conscious, and self-image.
(2) Study socio-cybernetics. It’s a field of science, thus much more than a book. [...]
(3) To as much as possible, join the powers that be politically…and other ways. Look at it this way, to get this vision to come true, we will need great communicators. Heck, we will need great communicators when it comes true.
(4) Get creative technologically. It is not enough to talk the talk…all of us to a substantial extent must walk the walk. The more of us with our fingers in the technology pie, the less likely technology can be misused, oppressed, stolen, etc. This education includes things like patenting, legal protection, etc.
(5) Create wealth. I know we want a society without capitalism, but we have to be realistic. Wealth gives us power to move this vision along in a variety of ways. Look at it this way, millions of wonderful visions have died due to the lack of the power to make them happen. In this society, money is power. It isn’t the only power, but it is very effective and versatile.
(6) Speaking of power, illustrating this vision via media is a critical part of re-programming society’s sub-conscious. People already suspect this current civilization is quite flawed, yet they don’t *believe* anything can replace it. Drawings, documentaries, fiction, blogging, etc. are all means to illustrate this vision. Star Trek did a great job showing how technology made capitalism obsolete. However, most well-intentioned illustrations lack real salesmenship. This is due to an unwillingness to do anything that resembles capitalism. Well, we’d better get over that and in a hurry.
Look at Da Vinci and Frank Lloyd Wright. They were not only brilliant at applying science, they were brilliant in sales, business, media, etc. They were both visionaries and extremely practical. Sure most of their dreams remained on paper, but they actually made many of their visions come to life.

Interesting and worth a look, but beware this vision of the future lacks even passing reference to nanotechnology, and biotechnology and only passing reference to artificial intelligence and robotics. It is ironic and odd that he insists on having “no opinion only facts” and then proceeds to spout only opinions and ignore facts. For a more fact based (but still imperfect) idea of the future look up Ray Kurzweil.

This is an incredible DVD. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in environmental causes and for those who love social issues. Of course architects would benefit greatly from it.

This is an incredible film, pertaining to what could be, not just improved. The revolutionary thinking of Jacque Fresco and Roxanne Meadows pertaining to a resource-based economy rather than an outmoded monetary-based economy is absolutely revolutionary and extremely refreshing to observe. The idea of restructuring our society by first thinking humanistically as well as using the existing technology (and future technology) is not just explained, but visually demonstrated and astonishing to behold. For example: Memory Metal. A metal or plastic that returns to its original state after being deformed over and over again that exists now! Cities designed for the sea as well as mariculture and freeing humanity’s creativity instead of constant competitiveness and redundancy may well be our way out from destroying ourselves. Fresco states: “We are not civilized yet.” Jacque Fresco is a genius of great magnitude, and it is extremely important to heed his gems of practical, yet creative wisdom. There is just simply too much to include in this review to give this film justice. It needs to be seen to fully appreciate the implications of it. I have bought multiple copies for others to try to bring a sense of hope for humanity’s future. I have also bought 3 other discs from “The Venus Project”, which is in itself astonishing! Many “Kudos” for this fabulous 2 disc film that is so needed to be realized at this time in human history!

Technology in harmony with nature is the design. Scientific method applied to sociology is a solution. Jacques Fresco will be hailed some day as a savior! We must,at all cost, put these designs into action immediately. Fresco is one of those ultra rare individuals who’s mind transcends the trappings of greed, fame and overall self interest. Since the age of 8 he has been drawing visions of a good future where man is liberated by technology rather than enslaved by it. We all feel the overwhelming need to change. Most of us just don’t know any real solutions to our biggest problems. This video is nothing but solutions. If you are a billionaire out there who happens to read this, stop screwing around and invest in some of Jacques solutions! I thank and salute Jacque Fresco and friends for dreaming and designing a future I can only hope for. I finally have a vision of the future in my mind other than “Mad Max” that actually makes sense. Buy it, watch it, live it, share it! Blessings!
